In early December 2023, Alfa-Bank founder Mikhail Fridman and the bank’s former shareholder German Khan were spotted at a society event in Moscow. They attended a soirée of the Russian Jewish Congress that took place on December 7 at the Igor Butman Jazz Club. Conceived as part of the Hanukkah festivities, the event drew particular attention of the press because Fridman and Khan hadn’t made social appearances in a long while, let alone in Moscow.
Mikhail Fridman is known to have spent the last few years in the UK (he is the owner of Athlone House in London). In October 2023, the businessman moved to Israel, from where he plans to make regular visits to Russia.
German Khan also lived in the UK for a few years but returned last year. According to the media, he has been living in Russia since September 2022.
Forbes ranks both businessmen among the planet’s wealthiest individuals. Mikhail Fridman ranks ninth in Russia and 140th in the world, while German Khan occupies the 18th and the 249th positions, respectively.
